Today being July 1st in the US, NeoOffice have finally released their Intel Alpha to the public. NeoOffice is a port of OpenOffice.Org to Mac OS X.
Since purchasing my Mac mini I have been eagerly awaiting this release, so today I downloaded and installed it.
One of the first things I noticed was how long it takes to open – around 20 seconds! I’m hoping this is due to my relative lack of RAM – only 512MB at the moment. When I upgrade to 2GB in a few weeks time I guess I’ll know for sure.
Other than that, NeoOffice looks fantastic – it integrates well, and at last I can use my printer (OpenOffice.Org running in X11 doesn’t list my printer – I am not sure why). It opens my documents fine. After installing the British Language pack (there doesn’t seem to be an Australian one yet) spellchecking works fine too.
